Prop Andrew Hart (hernia) has joined fullback Brad Watts (ankle) on South Sydney's doubtful list for tonight's double-header. Frank Puletua would come up off a five-man bench to replace Hart, while Wade McKinnon is on standby for Watts. Bulldogs boss Steve Folkes wasn't saying after training yesterday whether five-eighth Jonathan Thurston (shoulder) would play. Travis Norton has been cleared to make a return from injury in the premier league this weekend.
(SMH - 15 March 2003)
Interim South Sydney coach Paul Langmack has put his faith in the club's off-season recruitment program after yesterday naming nine new recruits in the side to play the Bulldogs on Saturday. Owen Craigie, out of favour with previous coach Craig Coleman due to a weight problem, was also chosen at five-eighth. With Langmack having until the Rabbitohs' football club elections on March 30 to secure the job full-time, he has selected the strongest possible side with Willie Peters at halfback after missing the pre-season due to a groin injury. The biggest surprise was the omission of fullback Wade McKinnon, whose spot will be taken by utility Brad Watts. Back-rower Luke Stuart and hooker Jason Death are the other notable absentees. Rookies Brett Kearney, Stacey Katu and Fili Lolohea are on a five-man bench.
