South Sydney Rabbitohs 32 Wests Tigers 22 at Aussie Stadium on Saturday night
Paul Langmack's breathed a huge sigh of relief as his side finally got the monkey off their back and picked up two competition points.
Second-rower Justin Smith was outstanding for the Rabbitohs, collecting a personal haul of 20 points.
When Nathan Merritt scored to break an 11-match losing streak, the Rabbitohs celebrations clearly showed the passion that is present in the club.
The Tigers were disappointing and slip to wins from five matches.
The match marked many confrontational moments with Smith and John Skandalis throwing punches at each other at one point.
Rabbitohs: Tries: Justin Smith (2), Brett Kearney, Paul Stringer, Nathan Merritt, goals: Smith (6)
Tigers: Tries: Willie Manu, Corey Pearson, Michael Buettner, Daniel Fitzhenry, goals: Joel Caine (3)
Ref: Matt Cecchin

Captain Bryan Fletcher will be named tonight for Saturday's match against Wests Tigers after serving a one-week suspension, but he remains in doubt due to a back problem. Fellow back- rower Jamie Fitzgerald is out for four to six weeks with a grade-three medial ligament strain. Meanwhile, coach Paul Langmack said he had not cut any players despite telling as many as 10 players last Friday that their form was not up to scratch. "I just spoke to a few players and told them what the situation is at the moment and they respect that," Langmack said. "It was just about improving the performance of the team overall. No one's been cut, no one's been mentioned on that subject. Everyone needs reminding about how good you were and how good you can be ... I don't know what the drama is." Asked whether he expected the players involved to stay with the club, Langmack answered: "You'd have to ask them that."
