From NRL.com.au NRL TO SEEK MEETING WITH SOUTHS 6 July 2001 The National Rugby League has confirmed that it will seek a meeting with the South Sydney Rugby League club to consider their application into the 2002 Telstra Premiership. The call comes following the judgement of the Full Bench of the Federal Court, which found in favour of the club. Although the decision makes no recommendation in relation to the size or nature of the competition and no order to reinstate South Sydney, the NRL believes that it is in the best interests of all concerned to open discussions with the club. 'Souths have shown tremendous spirit and we need to talk to them about whether that can be brought back to the football field," NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Moffett said today. "The club has publicly talked of its plans and it's now time for them to put those business cases to us in a formal way. "There may be aspects of the decision to review further, but these will not affect our current course of action. "Today's judgement is in essence a very technical one, we need to put those technicalities and the difficulties of the past few years behind us and concentrate on the future of the game."
